Back in 2018 trucking was very hard for me. My trucks were constantly breaking down and in the shop. Cash flow was tight. I remember having to decide things like: Pay the driver…or pay the light bill or gas bill.

The problem is most people believe in the typical trucking industry formula. They say more miles, more money. But the Lord didn’t say that to me.

Even the numbers show it. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) reports trucking profit margins are around 2–6%. That means running harder doesn’t guarantee profit.

But since that was all I saw for years, I believed I needed to run harder, run more loads and chase miles. All that did was bring me to the point where was I losing money and losing my mind. I was ready to tap out.

Fast forward to 2022. Business was moving up. It all turned around when I was awarded a dedicated waste industry contract. I went from pawning trucks to making $40,000-$50,000 a week. And then I scaled up to 18 trucks fast.

One day when I was thinking back on that journey, I thought to myself “It took four years of struggle to reach that breakthrough.” Then God corrected me. And as clear as day, I heard, “It didn't take me 4 years.” I was so confused. I said, “God! I was there. I felt all 4 years!”

God showed me something most truckers never think about. He explained to me, “Andrew, I exist outside of time. My plans for everybody are already established, but character determines when you arrive.”

He reminded me about the story of Moses and the Israelites. When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, it was only a 250-mile trip.

Why did it take 40 years?

It wasn't a physical resistance, it was a spiritual resistance. Sometimes the opportunity is already there. You just aren’t ready to see it yet. But God showed me that the real problem wasn’t the trucks, the loads or the business. It was toil.

The bible warns us, in Psalm 127:2 says: “It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night toiling for food to eat.”

Running trucks just to survive…Grinding yourself into the ground…That is not God’s formula.

Then another scripture confirmed it. Proverbs 10:22 says, “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth without painful toil for it.”

And that’s when I realized something.

God’s formula for running trucks does not include destroying your body, your mind or your family.

Let me fill you in on what happened before I got my trucking contract. I stopped praying for the load board or the economy to get better. Instead I prayed bigger prayers.

I took a piece of paper and wrote down: 10 trucks a day making $1,000 gross per day, 5 days a week, $50,000 gross a week. Unknowingly, this activated a biblical principle. Hebrews 11:6 “And it is impossible to please God without faith… he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Then the breakthrough happened. Within 30 days, I got my waste contract. Within 45 days, I was making $40,000 a week. But the crazy part? The whole time… the opportunity was 4 miles away from my house.

Here’s the bottom line. Our job is to do what we can do. God's job is to do what we cannot do. So what’s your job:

Be diligent. Walk in righteousness. Have faith.

God’s job: Open the doors.
